Grundon renews Rovers relationship

January 28th 2021

Forest Green Rovers have extended their relationship with local waste experts Grundon for a further two years.

Recognised as the UK’s largest family-owned waste management and environmental services provider, sharing the same ethos as FGR has been a key factor in the continuation of their partnership at the club – which started back in 2015.

Headquartered in Oxfordshire, with regional operations including a depot in Bishop’s Cleeve, Grundon look to minimise the financial and environmental impact of waste and have worked closely with FGR on new solutions. Grundon are helping the club to ensure any waste from the innocent New Lawn is diverted from landfill, as well as sending waste to recovery facilities to generate green energy.

With thanks to the partnership with Grundon, FGR were awarded with the prestigious Gold Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice in the Sports Leisure & Hospitality waste management.

New recycling stations were implemented across the stadium with sections for compostable waste, general waste and mixed recycling, with the aim for 100% of everything supplied to supporters to be compostable or recyclable.

As well as providing educational materials for FGR Community’s Fit2Last programme, in partnership with the EFL Trust, local children have benefitted from Grundon’s support for the ambassador programme, which has been a great way of staying connected to schools in the area.

Fans visiting the innocent New Lawn will also see the Grundon branding across the community stand, where visitors for the ‘kids go free’ matches get to watch the match action.

Henry Staelens, FGR’s Chief Executive, said: “Waste management plays a very significant role in FGR's overall impact on the planet - so it's fantastic to work with a partner like Grundon who understand our ethos and the push for even higher standards."

Daniel Peacey, Regional Sales Manager at Grundon, said: “We’re delighted to be extending our partnership with Forest Green Rovers.

“We’ve been working closely with the club for a number of years, helping it to achieve its sustainability goals through improving recycling and waste management. We share the same environmentally focused values as the club, which is why we’re proud to support the club’s sustainability initiatives, whether it be off-the-pitch with the ambassador programme or on it with our sponsorship of the Under 15 squad.”
